Development and Evaluation of an Integrated Self-Management Program for Women with Gestational Diabetes Mellitus

Abstract

|
Objectives: The purpose of the study was to develop and evaluate an integrated self-management program which could cover expected weakness from separately controlled obstetrics and internal medicine departments in women with gestational diabetes mellitus.
Methods: The integrated self-management program was developed to synthesize contents and methods in the management of glycemic control and pregnancy management approach.
Results: The program was conducted 3 out of 5 times for 1 hour small group meeting and 2 out of 5 times by telephone-counseling. The integrated self-management program was verified by an expert panel. The integrated self-management program for GDM women showed positive outcomes in satisfaction and understanding of content, program process, and utility.
Conclusion: These findings suggest that an integrated self-management program for GDM women has positive effects. Further studies are needed to identify the effects of an integrated selfmanagement program on glycemic control, maternal role, and pregnancy outcomes.
